Job Summary:

This is a temporary position for the period of June through mid-November 2025.

The Water Treatment Plant Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of mechanical equipment and infrastructure supporting a water treatment facility. This includes pumps, motors, piping systems, and other infrastructure associated with multiple evaporation ponds and a surface land application system used to discharge treated water.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical components of the water treatment plant, including pumps, blowers, valves, piping, and motors.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment associated with water management infrastructure, including aeration systems and monitoring devices for treatment ponds.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of a surface land application system used for the discharge of treated water.
  • Monitor system performance and assist with troubleshooting operational issues related to flow distribution, pressure, and water quality.
  • Ensure proper functioning of pump stations, chemical feed systems, and flow control mechanisms.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
  • Follow safety and environmental compliance procedures and assist in the development of maintenance protocols.
  • Collaborate with plant operators, engineers, and other maintenance staff to ensure efficient and reliable system performance.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Mechanical experience, ideally in a water or wastewater treatment environment, or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulic principles, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and work orders.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL preferred or ability to obtain.

  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • May involve lifting equipment, working in confined spaces, and exposure to chemicals and treated effluent.
  • Stand, walk, bend, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
